The foot-and-mouth disease, which had shown signs of slowing down, now appears to be spreading to pig farms. Three additional cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been confirmed at pig farms in Muan-gun, South Jeolla Province.


According to South Jeolla Province on the 15th, the National Quarantine Agency's detailed inspection conducted on the 14th confirmed foot-and-mouth disease at three pig farms in Muan-gun.


The Quarantine Headquarters dispatched an initial response team to control access to the affected farms and carry out disinfection procedures.


Currently, South Jeolla Province has urgently deployed a field investigation team to determine the cause.


The decision on whether to cull the animals will be made after consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and experts.


Meanwhile, since the first case of foot-and-mouth disease was confirmed at a Korean beef cattle farm on the 13th of last month in South Jeolla Province, a total of 19 cases have occurred, including 13 in Yeongam and 6 in Muan.
