Educational Program to Be Held Twice in the First and Second Halves of the Year
The National Seoul Cultural Heritage Research Institute announced on the 15th that it will hold a citizen lecture series titled 'Doran Doran Palace Gathering (嘉會)' at Heungbokjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace on the 30th of this month and September 24th.
This event is an opportunity to share various stories about palaces during the Joseon Dynasty. This year, the lectures will focus on the roofs of Joseon palaces, held twice in the first and second halves of the year. In the first half, Director Jo Sang-soon of the National Jungwon Cultural Heritage Research Institute will give a lecture on the theme of 'Palace Roofs.' Participants will also tour excavation sites such as the Mungyeongjeon area of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Mungyeongjeon is a spirit hall (혼전) where the ancestral tablets of the king and queen are enshrined after their passing. It was newly constructed during the reconstruction of Gyeongbokgung Palace in the late Joseon period under King Gojong.
In the second half, Researcher Lee Seon-myeong of the National Cultural Heritage Research Institute will introduce important elements of Joseon palace architecture, including roof structures, components, and dancheong (traditional multicolored decorative painting). Applications can be submitted on the institute’s website from 10 a.m. on the 16th until 5 p.m. on the 18th.
