Previously, through the party affairs committee and others, the Innovation Party decided not to field its own presidential candidate but to support the leading opposition candidates such as those from the Democratic Party of Korea. A party official explained, "This is a strategic choice prioritizing the complete end of the internal conflict and an overwhelming regime change by forces defending democratic constitutional governance."

The party-wide vote will be conducted online over two days from 8 a.m. on the 16th to 3 p.m. on the 17th. The electorate can be confirmed on the Innovation Party website until 6 p.m. on the same day.

Kim Seon-min, Acting Leader of the Innovation Party, said, "The Innovation Party will devote all its efforts politically and legally to ending the internal conflict," adding, "We ask sovereign party members and delegates to understand the party's anguish and determination regarding the 'electoral alliance' and to actively participate in the vote."
