Ministry of SMEs and Startups Launches Regional-Led Small Manufacturer Development Project with Gyeongbuk

Gyeongbuk Technopark to Lead... Intensive Support for Local Small Manufacturers
Building a Nurturing Ecosystem by 2027

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 15th that Gyeongsangbuk-do has been selected as the local government to promote the 'Region-Led Small Manufacturers Development Project,' which is being introduced for the first time this year.


The Region-Led Small Manufacturers Development Project is a collaboration between the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and metropolitan local governments to establish development plans for small manufacturers reflecting regional characteristics, and to intensively nurture local small manufacturers for three years by investing local policy capabilities. The Ministry plans to implement the project with about 10 metropolitan local governments by 2027, with Gyeongsangbuk-do being selected for the first time this year.

The 'Gyeongsangbuk-do Small Manufacturers Development Project' will be carried out for three years with Gyeongbuk Technopark as the dedicated project institution. Gyeongbuk Technopark will establish a policy cooperation system for small manufacturers with 22 basic local governments in Gyeongsangbuk-do, Yeongju and Gyeongsan Small Manufacturers Complex Support Centers, universities, research institutes, and will also serve as a policy hub for small manufacturers.


In the first year, this year, the project plans to lay the foundation for nurturing local small manufacturers through a budget of 1 billion KRW and linked support of 2.5 billion KRW from the Small Manufacturers Specialized Support Project. The project’s operational performance will be reviewed and supplemented annually to build a sustainable ecosystem for small manufacturers by 2027.


Lee Dae-geon, Director of Small Business Policy at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, "As the Region-Led Small Manufacturers Development Project takes its first step, we will carefully ensure that related policies are successfully established on the ground," and added, "We will strengthen policy support so that small manufacturers can grow into small enterprises and beyond."
