Serving as Health Guardians for Vulnerable Groups at Health Centers and Sub-centers
Geochang County, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 15th that it has presented appointment letters to four newly assigned public health doctors for 2025.
The newly assigned public health doctors include three from the field of medicine and one from Korean medicine. They will be stationed at health centers and sub-centers, where they will provide medical care and carry out public health projects for local residents.
This year, the service of eight public health doctors expired, but with only four newly assigned, some inconvenience for residents due to a shortage of medical personnel is expected. To minimize this inconvenience, the county plans to implement a regional rotation system for public health doctors.
Except for Geochang-eup, the 11 township areas will be divided into four regions: Jusang-Ungyang-Goje, Buksang-Wicheon-Mari, Namsang-Sinwon, and Namha-Gajo-Gabuk. Rotational medical services will be provided at local health sub-centers, focusing on residents with limited access to hospitals and clinics, as well as those with chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, offering both consultations and medication support.
Gu Inmo, the mayor of Geochang County, welcomed the new public health doctors, stating, "Given the relatively low accessibility to medical institutions compared to urban areas, the role of public health doctors is extremely important." He added, "Although this is part of your military service, I hope you will fulfill your duties as doctors with a sense of mission, treating residents with the same care and kindness as you would your own parents."
Meanwhile, in addition to the 12 public health doctors assigned to health institutions in Geochang County, three are working at Geochang Red Cross Hospital and one at Geochang County Geriatric Hospital.
