Unprecedented Visitor Surge Before Official Opening
Overwhelming Requests for Additional Operations
Linked Operation with 'Yeoju Ohak Ssarisanhappiness Festival'
Yeoju City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 14th that the Yeoju Namhangang Suspension Bridge, which is set to officially open on May 1, will have additional temporary operations on the 19th and 20th of this month.
During the temporary operation period from the 4th to the 11th, over 40,000 tourists visited the Yeoju Namhangang Suspension Bridge, drawing significant attention. Following a surge in requests for further access, Yeoju City decided to hold additional temporary operations to meet this high demand. Coinciding with the 'Yeoju Ohak Ssarisanhappiness Festival' held during the same period, it is expected to enhance convenience for citizens and tourists attending the festival.
The Yeoju Namhangang Suspension Bridge is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in South Korea, attracting nationwide interest even before its official opening due to its grand scenery embracing the Namhangang River and its overwhelming scale. The record-breaking average daily visitor count during this temporary operation is an exceptionally rare case among suspension bridges nationwide, marking Yeoju as a new tourism hub.
Lee Soon-yeol, Chairman of the Yeoju Sejong Culture and Tourism Foundation, stated, "The high interest in the suspension bridge proves the potential and possibilities of Yeoju tourism," adding, "We hope many who have been waiting for the additional operation will experience the suspension bridge along with the Ssarisanhappiness Festival and fully enjoy the blossoming spring atmosphere."
Meanwhile, the '3rd Yeoju Ohak Ssarisanhappiness Festival,' held from the 19th to 20th in the Ohak-dong Ssarisan area, is a representative village festival led by local residents. It offers a variety of programs including a health walking program in nature, cultural performances, and experiential activities. This festival is expected to be a special opportunity to fully enjoy Yeoju’s natural scenery while experiencing both the suspension bridge and the Ssarisan trail.
