Woo Hyung-chan Urges Swift Removal of Yoon Suk-yeol Government's National Goals from Schools
"Traces of the Leader of the Rebellion Must Be Erased to Restore Constitutional Order"
Woo Hyung-chan, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council (Yangcheon 3, Democratic Party of Korea, 3rd term), urged on the 14th, "The 'National Goals of the Yoon Suk-yeol Government, the Leader of the Rebellion,' posted at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, its affiliated institutions, and schools at all levels, must be immediately removed."
Earlier, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety issued an official document in June 2022, providing guidance on the national goals of the Yoon Suk-yeol government, frame specifications and production standards, and posting methods, requesting continuous sharing and promotion tailored to each institution's circumstances. Accordingly, around the same time, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education also disseminated related information to the education office headquarters, affiliated institutions, education support offices, libraries, and schools at all levels, requesting the distribution and posting of printed copies.
Councilor Woo pointed out, "Even now, the national goals of the Yoon Suk-yeol government remain posted in some principals' offices, teachers' offices, and entrances of certain schools," adding, "Since former President Yoon Suk-yeol was impeached for destroying the constitutional order and is under investigation for charges of rebellion, leaving promotional materials containing his philosophy and values in educational settings defiles the sacred educational environment and is highly likely to negatively influence students who will lead future generations."
It has been found that some schools are voluntarily removing the national goals. Regarding this, Councilor Woo stated, "It is time to prevent confusion in the educational field through responsible decisions and erase traces of the leader of the rebellion," urging the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to promptly issue removal guidelines to the education office and schools at all levels.
Councilor Woo said, "The national goals are a concentrated vision promised by the president to the people, but the promises of a president who betrayed the constitution and the people are nothing but traces of a traitor to the nation and a betrayer of the people," adding, "It is time for all institutions to erase those traces as soon as possible to restore the constitutional order and ensure that students, the future of the nation, develop proper values."
