On the 14th, Gwangsan District signed a business agreement with the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation for the early transfer of Ecolian Gwangsan CC. This marks the second case of early transfer nationwide, achieved after 18 months of discussions since last year. The signing ceremony was attended by Park Byungkyu, Mayor of Gwangsan District, Ha Hyungjoo, Chairman of the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, and Kim Myungsoo, Chairman of the Gwangsan District Council.
Located at 118 Yeonsan-dong, Gwangsan CC is an eco-friendly 9-hole golf course (326,822 square meters) developed with a total investment of 26.7 billion won, about a 10-minute drive from Gwangju Songjeong Station. The foundation will transfer the operation rights of the golf course to Gwangsan District as of July 1, and the district will repay approximately 7.5 billion won of the foundation's unrecovered investment in installments over the next six years.
With a goal of autonomous and responsible management, Gwangsan District plans to accelerate administrative preparations such as establishing a golf course website, enacting ordinances, and improving facilities before July. The district will also introduce resident-oriented programs, including golf classes for residents, free lessons, and fostering golf talent, to promote a community-based sports welfare model.
A contest for a new name and slogan for the golf course is being held until the 30th of this month. Two selected entries, based on intuitiveness, popularity, and originality, will each receive a mobile voucher worth 100,000 won. Details on how to participate can be found in the news section of the Gwangsan District website, and inquiries can be made to the Gwangsan District Sports Promotion Division.
Mayor Park Byungkyu stated, "I hope Gwangsan CC will be reborn as a space that gifts citizens a healthy daily life," adding, "We will make it a mutually beneficial golf course that we grow together."
