Providing Financial Education to Children Under Protection
Residing in Group Homes in the Region
BNK Gyeongnam Bank announced on the 14th that it will support the "Step-by-Step Financial Education" program for children under protection residing in group homes in the Gyeongnam region, in collaboration with the Gyeongsangnam-do Self-Reliance Support Agency.
BNK Gyeongnam Bank held a meeting on financial education and launched the "Step-by-Step Financial Education" program at the lecture hall of the Gyeongsangnam-do Self-Reliance Support Agency, located in Sarim-dong, Uichang-gu.
Group homes for children (community living facilities) are welfare facilities that provide a family-like, small-scale environment for children who cannot be protected at home due to reasons such as abuse, neglect, the death of parents, or absence of guardians.
To support financial education for children under protection living in group homes, BNK Gyeongnam Bank planned and decided to provide the "Step-by-Step Financial Education" program, which aims to help children save steadily and practice frugality in order to become self-reliant.
Lee Youngdong, a team leader and professional financial education instructor from the Financial Consumer Protection Department, plans to provide customized financial education for up to five children under protection at a time at the BNK Gyeongnam Bank branch meeting room near group homes, under the theme "Building Habits to Become Wealthy."
Kim Kyungok, Executive Director of BNK Gyeongnam Bank, said, "Since 2021, BNK Gyeongnam Bank has been continuously providing financial education to children who have completed protection and young adults preparing for self-reliance, in collaboration with the Gyeongsangnam-do Self-Reliance Support Agency. As this is the first time we are offering financial education exclusively for children under protection, we will do our utmost to help them become self-reliant in a healthy way."
Seo Taewon, Director of the Gyeongsangnam-do Self-Reliance Support Agency, stated, "Self-reliance is not something that happens immediately upon reaching adulthood, but rather a process that must be prepared step by step from childhood. We expect that this financial education will greatly help children under protection in group homes prepare for economic independence."
Meanwhile, BNK Gyeongnam Bank has been providing customized financial education, such as "financial education by school vacation periods for children who have completed protection" and "one-on-one financial education mentoring for young adults preparing for self-reliance," in collaboration with the Gyeongsangnam-do Self-Reliance Support Agency.
