Mokpo University and Jeonnam Office of Education Cooperate on High School-University Linkage Program

Leading the High School Credit System... Focusing on Talent Development
Strengthening Efforts to Bridge Educational Gaps and Support Career Paths

National Mokpo University (President Song Hacheol) is joining hands with the Jeollanam-do Office of Education to provide groundbreaking educational support for the successful implementation of the high school credit system.

Mokpo University announced on the 14th that, in preparation for the full-scale implementation of the high school credit system starting in the 2025 academic year, it is actively opening its human and material infrastructure to high school education, taking the lead in bridging the educational gap in the region.

Mokpo University's support for the high school credit system plays a key role in alleviating the relative educational gap in the Jeonnam region and in discovering and nurturing local talent. By sharing the university's expertise and resources with high schools in Jeonnam, it is drawing attention in the education sector for its efforts to improve the quality of education.

Mokpo University is proactively responding to the needs of the Jeollanam-do Office of Education and local high schools by leading three educational programs: operating the "Dream Nurturing Campus" joint curriculum in collaboration with the Jeollanam-do Office of Education, supporting the high school credit system in the southwestern region, and running a joint curriculum with autonomous public high schools.

Since 2022, Mokpo University has been operating the "Dream Nurturing Campus" joint curriculum with the Jeollanam-do Office of Education, starting with 15 courses in 2022 and planning to offer 13 courses in 2025. This is the highest number of courses offered among universities participating in the Jeonnam Office of Education's Dream Nurturing Campus, providing high school students with a variety of elective subjects and career exploration opportunities.

In addition, Mokpo University is the only university in Jeonnam to independently operate a support program for the high school credit system. Launched in 2023, this program dispatches faculty members to schools that request it and provides budget support, creating a practical model of educational cooperation. In 2023, 89 students from 7 schools participated in 7 courses, and in 2024, 90 students from 7 schools participated in 9 courses.

In 2025, 9 courses will be offered at 5 schools, and if selected for the "University Support Project for High School Education Contribution," the program will be significantly expanded. The program is systematically monitored by the Office of Educational Cooperation under the Admissions Office, with support from the Office of Educational Innovation under the Office of Academic Affairs, continuously enhancing its effectiveness.

Currently, Mokpo University has signed MOUs and is operating various collaborative programs with eight autonomous public high schools in Jeonnam participating in the 2.0 project, including Nama High School, Mokpo High School, Haenam High School, Yeongam High School, Gangjin High School, Yeosu High School, Samho High School, and Munhyang High School.

In particular, the joint curriculum with Nama High School and Haenam High School is recognized as a successful case, as the university provides its abundant infrastructure such as shuttle bus support, open access to laboratories, use of advanced experimental equipment, and placement of laboratory assistant tutors, earning high satisfaction from students, parents, and teachers.

In addition, following the 2024 academic year, Mokpo University continues to operate various high school-university linkage programs such as "Visiting Major Special Lectures," "Campus Career and College Entrance Expo," and "One-on-One Customized Intensive Counseling," making every effort to support the career and college entrance of high school students in Jeonnam. These initiatives have been well received by students, parents, and local residents for providing high-quality information to the community.

President Song Hacheol stated, "The fact that we were able to achieve an almost 100% enrollment rate within the quota for the 2025 admissions is a result of the university's sincerity in growing together with the local community, which has earned the trust of local residents," and added, "As a representative national university in the region, we will continue to strengthen educational cooperation between high schools and universities, focus on nurturing local talent, and do our utmost to contribute to the development of the local community by mobilizing all our capabilities."
