The Gwangju City Government announced on the 14th that it had detected five violators during a "joint public-private inspection" of businesses emitting environmental pollutants, conducted on the 1st and 2nd of this month.

This joint inspection targeted 22 businesses emitting air and water pollutants located in major local industrial complexes such as Hanam and Pyeongdong Industrial Complexes. As a result of the inspection, violations such as failure to conduct self-monitoring of air quality, damage or neglect of machinery and equipment attached to air pollution prevention facilities, and failure to report changes related to air emissions were uncovered.

Criminal violations such as failure to conduct self-monitoring of air quality will be investigated by the Social Disaster Division (Public Safety Investigation Team) of Gwangju City, while other violations will be subject to administrative action and fines according to relevant laws.

Kim Osuk, Director of the Environmental Conservation Division, stated, "We will continue to strengthen monitoring and crackdowns on environmental pollution activities that threaten citizens' health," adding, "We will do our best in environmental management so that citizens can live in a pleasant environment."
