People Power Party Primary Candidate Lee Cheolwoo, North Gyeongsang Governor: "192 Seats Plus Democratic Party in Power, Liberal Democratic System Collapsing"

"I Will Follow the Path of a 'New Park Chunghee'"
Daegu 'Asia Forum' Debate

Lee Cheolwoo, the governor of North Gyeongsang Province and a candidate in the People Power Party's presidential primary, said on the 14th, "If the Democratic Party comes to power, combined with their 192 seats in the National Assembly, the liberal democratic system might collapse."

At the 'Asia Forum 21' debate, an event hosted by a group of mid-career journalists in Daegu at 7:30 AM that day, Governor Lee stated, "I cannot just stand by and watch the Republic of Korea collapse and conservatism lose in a war of systems, so I am running for president to protect liberal democracy."

Governor Lee said, "Martial law is an act of governance by the president. While the method may have been wrong, it is clearly an act of governance," and added, "However, the Democratic Party attacked by labeling it as insurrection. The investigation into insurrection charges was a mess, with the Corruption Investigation Office and the police acting incompetently. Someone who had received an appointment from the president investigated the president. This is a disgrace to the Republic of Korea."

Governor Lee also argued, "If the Democratic Party comes to power with 192 seats, no one knows what kind of laws might be made that could shake the liberal democratic system," and added, "Until now, the presidential veto has served as a check, but that safeguard could be lost."

Governor Lee said, "Former President Park Chunghee built up the poorest country, launched the Saemaeul Movement, constructed the Gyeongbu Expressway despite 95% opposition, and developed POSCO and other industries to enrich our country, but he is called a dictator. The world sees him as a hero, but we call him a dictator," and promised, "I will become the second Park Chunghee. I will become a new Park Chunghee. I will lay the foundation for our descendants to prosper."

Governor Lee commented, "Regarding the rumors of Han Ducksoo running for president as an acting president, it is fine for him to participate in the People Power Party primary, but I think it would be problematic if he were later nominated without a contest," and added, "However, if the People Power Party selects a presidential candidate and the approval ratings remain low, we could consider it at that time."

Governor Lee announced pledges to amend the Constitution to introduce a four-year presidential term with the possibility of re-election, a bicameral legislature, and the abolition of proportional representation in the National Assembly.
