Shin Sook-hee (Judicial Research and Training Institute, 25th class) was elected as the Asia-Pacific regional director of the International Association of Women Judges. She is the third person from Korea to hold this position.
On the 14th, the Supreme Court announced that Justice Shin was elected as the regional director at the International Association of Women Judges conference held from the 9th to the 12th in Cape Town, South Africa. She is the third Korean to be elected after former Chief Judge Kim Young-hye in 2006 and former Justice Min Yoo-sook in 2010.
At the conference, Justice Shin discussed the leadership and roles of women judges. She also met with Mandisa Maya, Chief Justice of South Africa and President of the Constitutional Court, and invited her to the Sejong International Conference to be held in Korea this September on the theme of "Enhancing the Rule of Law and Judicial Accessibility."
The International Association of Women Judges, established in 1991, aims to promote human rights, justice, and equity through cooperation among women judges. It has over 14,000 members from 143 countries worldwide. The association holds a biennial world conference, during which two regional directors with two-year terms are elected at regional meetings.
