Realmeter Poll on Next Presidential Race
In Hypothetical One-on-One Matchups, Han Duck-soo Trails Lee by the Smallest Margin

In a poll on potential presidential candidates, former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung ranked first. Han Duck-soo, the acting president and prime minister whose candidacy has recently surged, was listed as a ruling party presidential candidate following former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo.

According to a poll released on the 14th by polling firm Realmeter (commissioned by Energy Economy Newspaper, conducted from the 9th to 11th with 1,506 voters aged 18 and over via 100% wireless automated response, with a margin of error of ±2.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 4.7%), in a preference survey where multiple presidential candidates from both ruling and opposition parties were presented, former leader Lee received 48.8%, securing first place. Compared to the previous survey, his support rate dropped by 0.7 percentage points.

Following him, former Minister Kim received 10.9% (down 5.4 percentage points), and Acting President Han was at 8.6%. Han was newly included in this poll amid speculation about his presidential run. Realmeter stated, "With Han included, there was a significant defection from Kim’s support base." Former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon received 6.2% (down 0.5 points), and former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo got 5.2% (down 1.9 points).


In hypothetical one-on-one matchups assuming Lee as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Lee comfortably led against expected People Power Party candidates. Against Kim, Lee led 54.3% to 25.3%; against Han Duck-soo, 54.2% to 27.6%; against Han Dong-hoon, 54.0% to 18.3%; and against Hong, 54.4% to 22.5%, all outside the margin of error. However, the gap was narrowest against Han Duck-soo.


In the Democratic Party’s candidate suitability survey, Lee led with 52.2%, followed by Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon at 11.7%, former lawmaker Kim Du-kwan at 4.0%, and former Gyeongnam Province Governor Kim Kyung-soo at 3.7%. In the People Power Party’s candidate suitability survey, former Minister Kim led with 17.8%, followed by former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min at 14.3%, former leader Han Dong-hoon at 9.8%, Acting President Han Duck-soo at 8.8%, former Mayor Hong at 7.7%, and People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo at 6.3%.


Regarding party support, the Democratic Party recorded 46.7%, up 1.9 percentage points from last week, while the People Power Party dropped 2.6 percentage points to 33.1%.
