Shinsegae Department Store Establishes 'With Shinsegae Hope Scholarship' to Foster Local Talent

Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 14th that it has established a talent development program called the 'With SHINSEGAE Hope Scholarship' to support education for local youth.

The With SHINSEGAE Hope Scholarship is a social contribution program aimed at providing "practical educational support" to underprivileged youth in local communities. It enhances the benefits of the existing Hope Scholarship system operated by Shinsegae with the keywords "regional coexistence, talent development, and long-term support."

The program plans to identify talented youth from low-income families in various academic fields within local communities and support their talent development throughout the three years of high school. Initially, 12 first-year high school students with academic potential and excellent grades will be selected from four regions: Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, and Busan.

Selected scholarship recipients will receive 3 million KRW annually for three years, totaling 9 million KRW in tuition support. This will assist with educational materials and tools linked to their curriculum, talent development lectures, and participation in competitions. The first cohort of With SHINSEGAE Hope Scholars is expected to be finalized in the third week of this month.

Shinsegae Department Store plans to further expand the With SHINSEGAE Hope Scholarship in the future. Starting with 12 scholars and 36 million KRW in scholarships this year, it aims to select 5 students from Gwangju, 2 from Daegu, 3 from Daejeon, and 2 from Busan annually. By 2027, the goal is to select a total of 36 scholars and provide over 100 million KRW in scholarships. Including the With SHINSEGAE Hope Scholarship, a total of 620 million KRW in scholarships will be supported, and youth support projects involving approximately 600 individuals annually will be operated to contribute to community development.

A Shinsegae Department Store official stated, "We have newly introduced the With SHINSEGAE Hope Scholarship to nurture outstanding local talent through effective educational programs and long-term benefit support. We will continue to strengthen win-win cooperation with more local communities and underprivileged groups through various youth support projects."

Meanwhile, the Shinsegae Department Store Hope Scholarship program, launched in 1996 and celebrating its 30th anniversary next year, has provided over 600 million KRW annually and a cumulative total of 10 billion KRW in scholarships to date.
