Linking Contests and Competitions
to Administrative Work

Gangnam-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) is promoting a one-stop education program that links hands-on training with idea contests and practical competitions to strengthen public officials' generative artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

Gangnam-gu, One-Stop Practical Training on Generative AI... 960 Employees 'Studying Hard' Gangnam-gu staff training session. Provided by Gangnam-gu.

This program reflects Gangnam-gu's vision to lead AI-based administrative innovation by enhancing public officials' practical skills through a systematic process of integrating AI into their work.

The first phase of the program, held from the 24th of last month to the 14th of this month, consisted of 32 sessions conducted twice daily at the information education center within the government building, focusing on hands-on practice. A total of 960 employees participated, far exceeding the planned capacity of 780, demonstrating high interest.

The training covered understanding the concept of generative AI centered on ChatGPT, and practical use cases such as document creation, meeting minutes, and report summarization.

The second phase is the "Generative AI Administrative Use Case Contest." This contest, running until the end of this month and open to all employees, aims to share outstanding cases with all staff and serve as an internal reference to demonstrate how far AI can be applied in administration.

The final third phase is a competition. Participants use generative AI to generate ideas and develop implementation plans on given topics. The competition comprehensively evaluates participants' AI utilization skills, creativity, completeness, and applicability to actual work, testing their AI practical capabilities.

District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong stated, "We will widely share innovative cases of applying AI in administration so that anyone can utilize it, and through this, we will create a working organizational culture."
