Uchi Zoo, Zookeepers and Veterinarians Share Lively Animal Stories Giraffe Story. Provided by Uchi Zoo

The Uchi Park Management Office in Gwangju City announced on the 13th that it will temporarily operate a special program called "Zoo Story" from April to May, featuring veterinarians and zookeepers who directly participate to provide lively on-site commentary and education.

"Zoo Story" is a program where zookeepers and veterinarians vividly share various stories related to animals. The program includes "Zoo Walk with Blue-and-yellow Macaw," "Giraffe Story told by the Giraffe Keeper," and "Yesterday and Today of Animal Friends with the Veterinarian."

During "Zoo Walk," the education is conducted with the Blue-and-yellow Macaw named "Mario" present. In "Giraffe Story," the zookeeper will share the ecological characteristics of giraffes on site together with the giraffe.

"Yesterday and Today of Animal Friends" offers an experience of animal health checkups at the animal hospital with a veterinarian. Especially during the ward round, participants will hear stories of animals that have recently passed away, such as a hippopotamus, as well as other animals that have reached the end of their lives at the zoo, providing a meaningful time to reflect on their lives and reaffirm their value.

This program is expected to enhance understanding of animal health care and welfare, and raise awareness of wildlife protection and ecosystem conservation. It also aims to provide an opportunity to realize the preciousness of life through interaction with animals and to feel the necessity of sustainable nature conservation. The schedule for "Zoo Story" can be checked on the Uchi Zoo website of Gwangju City.

Sung Changmin, head of the Uchi Park Management Office, said, "We hope Uchi Zoo will become not just a place to observe animals, but an educational venue where visitors can realize the value of respect for life while having fun," and added, "We will continue to expand the educational role of the zoo to provide citizens with valuable experiences."
