Monday Nationwide Rain and Wind... Heavy Snow Forecasted in Gangwon Mountain Areas

Following the weekend, rain and strong winds are expected to continue on Monday, the 14th.


From noon on the 12th to 4 p.m. on the 13th, rainfall amounts were 115.4mm in Seogwipo, Jeju, 50.1mm in Changwon, Gyeongnam, 48.5mm in Wando, Jeonnam, 35.0mm in Ulsan, and 33.5mm in Busan, with heavy rain falling in Jeju and the southern regions.

In addition, Seoul recorded 19.6mm, Incheon 27.8mm, Daejeon 17.9mm, Gwangju 21.0mm, and Daegu 20.7mm of precipitation.


In Suncheon, Jeonnam, and Gosan, Jeju, the strongest winds on the 12th reached peak gusts of 21.9m/s and 34.9m/s respectively, marking the highest daily maximum gusts recorded in April since meteorological observations began in each area.


Yeosu (35.0m/s on the 13th), Boseong (23.9m/s on the 13th), Gwangyang (21.5m/s on the 13th), Seongsan, Jeju (23.3m/s on the 12th), and Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi (19.0m/s on the 13th) also recorded the second highest daily maximum gusts for April.


While rain and strong winds may weaken in some areas, the Seoul metropolitan area, inland and mountainous regions of Gangwon, Chungcheong, and northeastern inland and mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk are expected to experience rain and snow until late afternoon on the 13th.


On the 14th, rain and snow will continue nationwide. Some areas may experience a lull in the morning, but heavy snowfall is possible in the mountainous areas of Gangwon at dawn. A preliminary heavy snow advisory has been issued for the northern, central, and southern mountainous regions of Gangwon and Taebaek.


The additional rainfall expected by the 14th is estimated to be around 5 to 20mm nationwide. Expected snowfall amounts are 3 to 8cm in the Gangwon mountains; 1 to 5cm in inland Gangwon, northern and eastern Gyeonggi, northern Chungbuk, northeastern inland Gyeongbuk, Gyeongbuk mountains, and Jeju mountains; around 1cm in Daejeon, Sejong, Chungnam, central and southern Chungbuk, eastern Jeonbuk, inland eastern Jeonnam, western Gyeongbuk, central northern inland Gyeongbuk, and northwestern inland Gyeongnam; and less than 1cm in Seoul, Incheon, and southwestern Gyeonggi.
