Kim Taeo, Graduate of the International Track...
"Interested in Macroeconomics"
43 Graduates Achieve 164 Acceptances to U.S. Universities
A student who graduated from high school in Korea has made headlines by being simultaneously accepted to 11 prestigious universities, including the Ivy League in the United States. The protagonist is Kim Tae-o, a graduate of Yongin Hankuk University of Foreign Studies High School (Yongin HUFS High School).
Yongin HUFS High School announced on the 13th that Kim was accepted to 11 universities including Stanford University, Yale University, Brown University, Cornell University, Georgetown University, and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Kim graduated in February from the international track, a study abroad class of Yongin HUFS High School, which is a nationally recruited autonomous private high school.
He said, "I am very interested in macroeconomics and researched the impact of exogenous shocks in monetary policy on income inequality within the New Keynesian model," adding, "In school life, I tried to maintain balance by engaging in debates, sports, volunteering, and foreign languages."
Kim reportedly achieved these results while serving as the head of the school's international studies department, class president, and mentor for the social contribution camp, as well as participating in sports such as futsal and lacrosse.
There are 43 graduates from the international track at Yongin HUFS High School, including Kim, who collectively achieved 164 acceptances to U.S. universities. Including acceptances to world-renowned universities such as University College London, University of Hong Kong, Waseda University, and University of Toronto, the total number of acceptances is 177.
This year, Yongin HUFS High School had 364 graduates in total. Their domestic university acceptance results include 56 to Seoul National University, 173 to Yonsei University and Korea University, 12 to KAIST, 9 to POSTECH, 103 to Sungkyunkwan University, 53 to Sogang University, and 56 to Hanyang University, with 210 students accepted into medical fields.
Kim Min-kyung, head of the international department, said, "While we are proud of the outstanding achievements of some students, what is even more meaningful is that most students found and enrolled in the universities that best suited them."
She added, "This is the result of our school's flexible and creative educational philosophy, a curriculum equipped with global competitiveness, and an excellent faculty working together."
