Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, visited his hometown Andong, Gyeongbuk, on the 12th to pay respects at his parents' graves.
His campaign office stated in a press release that day, "This is a personal schedule reflecting the candidate's wish to visit his hometown Andong and pay respects to his parents before fully engaging in the election schedule."
The candidate also visited the Andong Moksong-dong Cathedral, where the funeral of Bishop Dubong Renado (French name Ren? Dupont), a French-born bishop who passed away on the 10th, was held to offer condolences.
Bishop Dubong was dispatched to Korea shortly after the Korean War and devoted over 70 years to pastoral work mainly in rural areas before passing away at the age of 96.
