Yeonggwang County in Jeollanam-do recently held a kick-off briefing session for the "Establishment of the Yeonggwang-type Basic Income Implementation Master Plan" research project at the small conference room of the Yeonggwang County Office, attended by the county governor, department heads, and about 30 participants.

This research project, which aims to establish a Yeonggwang-type basic income implementation master plan, is being led by the Basic Income Research Institute, which conducts various studies related to the establishment of basic income systems in Korea. The goal is to develop a model for Yeonggwang-type basic income payments by the end of July.

At the briefing session, the Basic Income Research Institute explained the step-by-step project schedule, comparisons with domestic and international cases, the potential and anticipated issues of a Yeonggwang-type basic income linked to the county's renewable energy shared assets, and more.

Deputy County Governor Song Gwangmin stated, "Yeonggwang County is currently taking a path that no one has ever taken before. I hope the research institute and the leading department will approach this project with the mindset of establishing a centennial vision for Yeonggwang County and design a basic income model that leverages the unique advantages of Yeonggwang's abundant sunlight and wind shared assets."

Meanwhile, a Yeonggwang County official announced that the results of this research project will be reflected in the completion of the Yeonggwang-type basic income implementation master plan, and based on this, the county will gather residents' opinions to establish specific payment criteria, such as recipients and payment frequency.
