Drones and Thermal Imaging Cameras Deployed
Disaster Prevention Inspections to Continue Until June
Gwangsan-gu in Gwangju has launched an intensive safety inspection campaign to prevent disasters and accidents. The inspections will be conducted from the 14th of this month to June 13th, spanning two months, and will target a total of 85 facilities and locations through a joint public-private approach.
According to Gwangsan-gu on the 12th, the inspections will involve private experts from the Safety Management Advisory Group, 14 departments of Gwangsan-gu, and local citizens. The focus will be on identifying and eliminating potential hazards in high-risk areas such as multi-use facilities and aging infrastructure.
The district plans to strengthen citizen participation by implementing programs such as the 'Resident Inspection Application System' and 'Safety Report Center,' encouraging local residents to take part in the inspections themselves. Promotional activities to spread a culture of safety will also be carried out in parallel.
For areas that are difficult to assess visually, such as steep slopes or embankments, advanced equipment like drones and thermal imaging cameras will be used to improve the precision of the inspections. Facilities found to have structural defects or other issues will undergo follow-up actions such as repairs or reinforcement.
Park Byungkyu, the head of the district office, stated, "The best safety measure is thorough prevention," and added, "Through effective inspections, we will identify and eliminate risk factors in the community early to protect the lives and property of our residents."
