Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church stated on the 11th regarding the 21st presidential election, "The Liberty Unification Party seems to be planning to field a separate candidate."
Before attending the trial on charges including election law violations held at the Seoul Northern District Court that day, Pastor Jeon told reporters about the presidential candidates, "I still don't know who will come out."
When asked if he had contacted former President Yoon Seok-yeol, Pastor Jeon said, "I had one phone call," adding, "I cannot disclose the content. It should not be made public." After the trial, Pastor Jeon said the call with former President Yoon was last year and that he has had no contact since the latter's impeachment.
Pastor Jeon was brought to trial on charges of demanding and receiving money from prospective candidates in exchange for recommending proportional representation candidates for the Liberty Unification Party during the last general election. He is also accused of holding a press conference to refute the 'nomination trading' allegations and attempting to cover up the suspicions by providing money to reporters. Pastor Jeon's side denied all charges during the trial that day.
