Honam University Graduate School (Dean Kim Deokmo) announced on the 11th that it operated a 'Regional Korean Culture Exploration Program' for international students in Gokseong, Jeonnam and Sunchang, Jeonbuk.

This program, held over two days and one night from the 9th to the 10th, was organized to provide international students with opportunities to experience the values of Korean traditional culture and local communities by utilizing regional cultural resources in close cooperation with local governments.

On the 9th, the international students visited Deokyang Seowon in Gokseong, where they learned about the history and philosophy of traditional Korean educational institutions. During a special lecture on cultural heritage and environmental protection, they gained an understanding of the values of Korean society in preserving and passing down cultural heritage. The students also directly experienced the vibrant blend of traditional and modern Korean culture through activities inspired by the popular drama 'Squid Game' and by trying on Hanbok.

On the 10th, with the cooperation of the Sunchang Fermentation Tourism Foundation, the group visited the Jangryu Museum and Fermentation Theme Park, where they learned about the history and excellence of Korean fermentation culture. Participants enjoyed meaningful hands-on experiences such as making Gochujang, cooking Tteokbokki, making traditional rice cakes, and preparing Sunchang's specialty 'Bbangduigi', all provided free of charge, allowing them to experience Korean traditional food culture with all their senses. The international students also enjoyed a comfortable stay at the 'Sunway Adventure' accommodation provided by the Sunchang Fermentation Tourism Foundation.

Joo Inyoung, Director of the Graduate School International Student Support Office, who oversaw the event, stated, "We will continue to develop various experiential programs so that international students can better understand Korea and connect emotionally through collaboration with the local community," adding, "We will spare no effort to provide multifaceted support so that each student can make their study abroad experience in Korea even more meaningful."
