Minimizing Vessel Damage from Maritime Accidents Caused by Sea Fog
The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters (Chief Lee Myungjun) announced that on the afternoon of the 11th, a meeting was held in the main conference room of the headquarters to discuss cooperation between related agencies in preparation for maritime accidents caused by sea fog during the spring fog season and to minimize vessel damage.

About 20 officials from the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration, Jeonju Regional Meteorological Administration, Gunsan, Mokpo, Wando, Goheung, and Yeosu Vessel Traffic Service Centers, as well as the Fishing Vessel Safety Operation Bureau, attended the meeting. The agenda included: ▲ Policy measures for marine weather by the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration ▲ Provision of navigation information and monitoring plans for passenger and fishing vessels by sea area ▲ Cooperation measures for situation management among agencies during adverse marine weather conditions.
In addition, the West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters plans to subdivide low-visibility zones within its patrol areas and utilize visibility observation data for situation management through the 'Low Visibility Situation Management Process' currently being implemented, in order to better prepare for maritime accidents.
An official from the West Sea Regional Coast Guard Headquarters stated, "From April to July, during the spring fog season, maritime accidents such as vessel disorientation and collisions have occurred," and added, "We will implement policies to create a safer sea by reflecting the various opinions discussed at this inter-agency meeting."
