Cheonan City in Chungnam announced on the 11th that it will conduct intensive inspections of food hygiene establishments ahead of major festivals such as the 'K-Culture Expo' and 'Bbangjisure Bbangbbang Day' to be held in June.
The inspection period will run from the 14th of this month to the 2nd of next month, targeting a total of 1,456 establishments, including 340 bakeries, 300 snack bars, and 825 general restaurants.
The main inspection items include raw material storage, handling of food ingredients, and other violations of the Food Sanitation Act. Businesses found in violation will face administrative actions and be restricted from participating in large-scale events.
Additionally, the city plans to conduct food safety assessments for facilities vulnerable to hygiene issues and provide technical support for hygiene ratings to small-scale business owners until the end of the year. On the 17th and 18th of this month, hygiene education will be provided to 600 general restaurant operators.
A city official stated, "We plan to take strong administrative measures and file complaints against businesses that threaten food safety or cause public anxiety," adding, "Together with partner organizations such as the Cheonan Branch of the Korea Bakery Association, we will do our best to create an environment where business owners feel responsible and can maintain safety and hygiene."
Meanwhile, the city recently imposed fines and business suspensions on a bakery that produced bread while cement dust was present, and from May 31 to June 2, conducted a comprehensive inspection of establishments designated as 'Bbangso', which are well-known for their bread.
