Aiming to Prevent Forest Fires and Protect Forests from Damage
Imsil County in North Jeolla Province will strictly enforce intensive crackdowns on illegal activities in forests until the 31st of next month, in response to the increase in spring hiking and the season for gathering forest products.
According to the county on the 11th, this measure is a proactive response to prevent forest fires and forest damage, and large-scale on-site inspections will be conducted in the local forests.

The main targets of this intensive crackdown include: ▲ Gathering of forest products in spring ▲ Installation of illegal facilities that can damage or pollute the forest ▲ Illegal dumping of garbage ▲ Possession of flammable materials by hikers and burning activities in areas adjacent to forest land.
The county has organized three special mobile inspection teams consisting of 12 members and plans to take strong actions such as criminal charges or fines for detected illegal activities in accordance with the Forest Protection Act and other relevant laws.
If forest land is converted without permission by installing illegal facilities, violators may face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 50 million won. Those who dump waste or garbage in the forest, light fires, or bring fire into the forest or adjacent areas may be fined up to 1 million won, and smoking in the forest may result in a fine of up to 300,000 won.
County Governor Sim Min said, "I hope everyone will actively participate in eradicating illegal activities and take the lead in protecting our forests."
