Strengthening Collaboration with Japanese Cruise Lines Through Tailored Attraction Marketing
The Japanese cruise ship "Mitsui Ocean Fuji" will visit Yeosu Port for the first time on the 13th.
According to Yeosu City, around 500 passengers and crew members will stay in Yeosu for about 10 hours on that day, enjoying the full bloom of spring and a variety of tourism content.
This port call marks the first visit of "Mitsui Ocean Fuji," newly launched by the Japanese cruise company MOL in December 2024, and the ship is scheduled to call at Yeosu a total of four times this year.
Last year, the city participated in the "Tokyo Port Sales" hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, initiating exchanges with MOL through B2B consultations. In February this year, the city invited representatives from the cruise company to Yeosu and conducted an aggressive marketing campaign by introducing port facilities and tourism resources through a familiarization tour.
In particular, the traditional temple experience program at Heungguksa Temple, which was introduced during the familiarization tour, will be operated as a group travel product during the port call. This highlights the significance of Yeosu's attraction strategy leading to the development of tourism products.
To ensure smooth port tourism, the city is preparing a wide range of administrative support, including a welcoming performance by the municipal Korean traditional music band "Chwita Band," free shuttle buses to major tourist attractions, deployment of cultural tourism interpreters and volunteer translators, operation of a temporary tourist information center inside the terminal, and a pop-up store selling local specialties.
Additionally, the city will offer various tourism options by introducing attractions within walking distance of the cruise terminal, such as Aqua Planet, Arte Museum, and Sky Tower, so that visitors can fully experience the charm of Yeosu during their short stay.
A city official stated, "The arrival of 'Mitsui Ocean Fuji' is a case where strategic marketing targeting newly launched Japanese cruises has led to tangible results," adding, "We will continue our active efforts to attract cruise ships and promote Yeosu as an international port of call and enhance its recognition as a global tourist city."
Meanwhile, "Mitsui Ocean Fuji" is a large cruise ship measuring 198 meters in length and weighing 32,000 tons, capable of accommodating about 800 people, including 478 passengers and 338 crew members. The ship is scheduled to make additional calls at Yeosu Port in May, August, and November.
