Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) announced on the 11th that it has actively participated in the '2025 Mugunghwa Sapling Supply Project,' jointly promoted by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Forest Service, and received 4,537 saplings (23.4%) out of the nationwide supply of 19,375 saplings. This is the highest number among all provincial and metropolitan offices of education nationwide, demonstrating Gyeongbuk Office of Education's high participation rate and strong commitment to action.
This project was launched to commemorate the 80th Arbor Day and the 80th anniversary of Liberation, aiming to beautify school spaces with the national flower Mugunghwa and to create a nature-friendly and historically educational environment.
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education conducted a thorough demand survey among schools in the province that wished to participate and plans to maximize educational effectiveness by linking the planting activities with student-led participation.
The saplings being supplied are two-year-old Mugunghwa grown at the National Sejong Arboretum, and will be used for various ecological and historical education purposes, such as school flowerpot gardening experiences and the creation of Mugunghwa gardens on school grounds.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, "This Mugunghwa supply project is more than simple landscaping; it is a meaningful educational opportunity for students to learn to love their country and to study both history and nature at the same time," adding, "We will continue to create school environments that reflect regional characteristics and educational values."
