A Fine of Up to 2 Million KRW for Failing to Undergo Testing
Muju County in North Jeolla Province is offering free compost maturity tests for livestock manure throughout the year.
According to the county on the 11th, the livestock manure maturity test is mandatory under the "Act on the Management and Use of Livestock Manure." Farms with an area of less than 1,500㎡ must undergo the test once a year, while those with an area of 1,500㎡ or more must do so every six months. The results must be kept for three years. However, farms that entrust manure disposal to a manure processing company are exempt from the testing requirement.
Farmers wishing to have their compost tested should collect a sample and bring it to the Comprehensive Analysis Laboratory on the first floor of the Agricultural Science Center at the Muju County Agricultural Technology Center.
To collect the compost sample, take more than 2kg from 5 to 10 different spots in the compost pile, mix it thoroughly, and then put about 500g into the designated sample bag.
An official from the Muju County Agricultural Technology Center stated, "If you fail to conduct the maturity test or violate the three-year retention requirement for test results, you may be fined up to 2 million KRW according to the law. We ask all farmers to comply with these legal obligations and actively participate in eco-friendly livestock manure management, as this is an essential procedure for protecting the agricultural environment and promoting sustainable agricultural development."
