Muan County, Jeonnam (Governor Kim San) announced on the 11th that it is accepting applications for participants in the 17th Hwangtogol Muan National Cooking Contest, which will be held during the 28th Muan Lotus Festival, until June 9.
This year's contest is held under the theme "Muan, Embracing Asia's Well-being," and aims to develop healthy and creative K-Muan brunches (two types) that can lead the globalization of Korean cuisine by utilizing Muan's representative agricultural specialties.
Anyone who is a South Korean citizen aged 13 or older is eligible to apply, and participants are required to submit a brunch set (including a multinational salad) using ingredients from Muan.
The 20 teams that pass the first document screening will compete in the on-site finals on the main stage of the Muan Lotus Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 28. The competition will award a grand prize (1 team), an excellence award (1 team), a merit award (2 teams), and an encouragement award (16 teams), with a total prize pool of 8.8 million KRW.
Kim Hyanggeum, head of the Rural Support Division, stated, "This contest will shed new light on local agricultural products and discover menus that combine well-being food culture, providing tourists with a new gastronomic experience. Among the winning entries, outstanding menus will be introduced in cooperation with brunch cafes or dining establishments in the future, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy."
Meanwhile, those wishing to participate should refer to the notices on the Muan County website and submit their application form via email, in person at the Rural Support Division of Muan County Office, or by mail.
