Yangsan City Finalizes Selection of New Sites for Outstanding Runoff Reduction Projects

Securing 21.5 Billion KRW in National Funding Out of a Total Project Cost of 43 Billion KRW
A Step Closer to a Safe City and a Secure Living Environment for Citizens

Yangsan City in Gyeongnam has been finally selected as the project site for the 2026 New District Project for Stormwater Runoff Reduction Facility Installation, which was publicly recruited by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, to promote the stormwater runoff reduction projects in the Nambu Market District and Seokgye 1 District, as established in the 'Yangsan City Stormwater Runoff Reduction Plan,' as of the 8th.

This project has a total budget of 43 billion KRW, with 21.5 billion KRW (50%) funded by the national government and 21.5 billion KRW (50%, including 15% from the provincial government) funded by local governments. The project was finalized as the designated site after an on-site inspection on March 26, 2025, a selection review committee on April 4, and the final selection on April 8.

The purpose of the project is to establish an efficient stormwater management system during heavy rainfall to protect citizens' lives and property from disasters. Through this project, Yangsan City is taking a step closer to becoming a thoroughly safe city.

In the Nambu Market District, 35 billion KRW will be invested in four parks in Bukbu-dong and Nambu-dong to install retention facilities and improve stormwater pipelines. To supplement the existing stormwater management system in response to climate change, some stormwater pipelines will be replaced, and stormwater retention and infiltration facilities will be installed within park areas to maintain stable stormwater flow even during heavy rainfall.

In the Seokgye 1 District, 8 billion KRW will be invested to install stormwater retention facilities to prevent flooding in the Saejinheung Apartment area. By receiving national and provincial financial support, this project is expected to alleviate residents' concerns about flood damage and reduce the local government's financial burden, thereby greatly contributing to both citizen safety and the maintenance of sound fiscal health.

Yangsan City plans to complete the feasibility study in 2025, proceed with design in 2026, and finish the project by 2030. The city expects that the project will not only create a safe urban environment but also lay the foundation for sustainable urban development.

Furthermore, thorough project management and continuous monitoring are expected to yield tangible results in the future.

A city official stated, "Through this project, we will effectively resolve Yangsan City's stormwater runoff issues and do our utmost to create a safe living environment for our citizens."
