Mayor Park: "Hosting the WADA Conference in Busan, Determined to Become a Global Hub City"

Busan City has held a pledge ceremony to ensure the successful hosting of the 2025 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Conference, which will take place in Busan this December.

Busan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced that it would reaffirm its commitment to the successful hosting of the WADA Conference by attending the 2025 Play True Day commemorative event, held at Olympic Parktel in Seoul at 10 a.m. on the 11th.

'Play True Day' was first established at the 2013 WADA Education Conference and has since become a global campaign, with the international sports community designating a day each April to raise awareness of the importance and value of anti-doping efforts.

This event, hosted by the Korea Anti-Doping Agency (KADA), will be attended by Mayor Park Hyungjoon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo Inchon, sports figures, athletes, and about 200 participants.

The event, themed 'A Strong Korea Without Weak People,' will consist of two parts: ▲ Part 1, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Fair Play Ground, and ▲ Part 2, the anti-doping commemoration ceremony.

In Part 1, the groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Fair Play Ground,' a multi-cultural space where the value of fair sports can be experienced, will be held. This venue is designed as a hub for anti-doping education, allowing student athletes to learn about the dangers of doping and the value of sports through play and hands-on activities.

In the main event of Part 2, commemorating 'Play True Day,' there will be ▲ congratulatory speeches from distinguished guests and ▲ an anti-doping pledge ceremony, providing all participants with a meaningful moment to reaffirm their commitment to fair and clean sports values.

Following this, the ▲ Anti-Doping Golden Bell Quiz Event will deliver information about the dangers of doping and prevention methods to the general public in an easy and entertaining way through a quiz format.

At this event, Busan City will emphasize the significance and importance of hosting the 2025 WADA Conference in Busan and encourage active promotion and participation from those involved in the domestic sports community.

The upcoming conference, to be held at BEXCO from December 1 to 5, will see around 2,000 participants from 191 countries engage in in-depth discussions on topics such as ▲ the World Anti-Doping Code ▲ establishment and revision of international standards ▲ and WADA’s five-year strategic plan.

In his congratulatory remarks, Busan Mayor Park Hyungjoon stated, "The WADA Conference is the highest authority international meeting for discussing anti-doping policies," and added, "We will do our utmost to showcase the appeal of Busan as a rising global hub city and further strengthen Korea’s sports diplomacy."
