Chosun University Museum of Art (President Kim Choonseong) announced on the 11th that it will hold the collection exhibition 'Rebirth: Hidden Hitchhiking' at Baekmin Museum of Art in Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do.
This exhibition is part of the 'Regional Exhibition Support for Museum Content Utilization' project, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Arts Management Support Center, and organized by the exhibition consulting company Wasabia. Out of the 1,860 pieces in the Chosun University Museum of Art collection, about 40 paintings by eight artists representing the Honam art scene?Kim Bohyun, Oh Seungwoo, Lim Jiksun, Yoon Jaewoo, Yang Kyenam, Kim Jongsoo, Jin Yanguk, and Jin Wonjang?will be on display. In addition, works by artist Cho Gyuil from the Baekmin Museum of Art collection will be included, bringing the total to around 50 pieces for visitors to enjoy.
The Chosun University Museum of Art has consistently collected and researched a variety of works to help establish regional art history and preserve artistic value. This exhibition is expected to serve as an opportunity for these collections to be reborn as living art, going beyond mere 'preservation' to achieve 'connection' and 'reinterpretation' across different regions and generations.
The exhibition theme, 'Hidden Hitchhiking,' encourages all participants to become free travelers?'hitchhikers'?and experience serendipitous connections with new people through art. The exhibition invites visitors on a journey to discover hidden values that are not immediately apparent, by creating intersections between generations and offering multifaceted artistic experiences. All of these processes are experimental and adventurous, suggesting a path toward the destination of 'rebirth.'
In particular, this exhibition focuses on 'region,' 'experience,' and 'connection,' offering opportunities for audiences to understand the works from various perspectives through local brand collaborations, exhibition-linked bus tour programs, retreat programs utilizing the landscapes of Boseong and Baekmin Museum of Art, exhibition commentary (docent) programs, and AI media artworks. The collection exhibition will run for 45 days, from September 30 to November 20.
Jo Yoonsung, Director of the Chosun University Museum of Art, stated, "This exhibition is a more proactive attempt for the museum's treasured collections to meet audiences in a new place," adding, "It will demonstrate the connectivity of time and space inherent in art and the meaning of an aesthetic language that encompasses generations and locations."
Kim Daewook, CEO of Wasabia, said, "I hope that the aesthetic language of the senior artists of the Honam art scene will be interpreted in diverse ways, leading to a wider range of approaches and acceptance of art," and added, "I look forward to seeing new 'hitchhikers' continue to connect and drive artistic connections and change."
