Wildfire Breaks Out in the Demilitarized Zone, Making Personnel Deployment Difficult

The wildfire extinguishing operation that occurred on the afternoon of the 10th in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) of Hyeonnae-myeon, Goseong-gun, Gangwon, resumed with the sunrise on the 11th.


According to the forestry authorities, from 6 a.m. that day, one Korea Forest Service helicopter and one locally rented helicopter have been deployed for firefighting.

The fire was confirmed to have started from the northern side and spread southward with the wind. Due to the wildfire occurring in the Demilitarized Zone, it is difficult to deploy personnel.


The authorities plan to investigate the damage area as soon as the extinguishing is completed.
