Mr. A utilized multinational couriers including Koreans and Thais. From October 2022 to November 2024, he smuggled and distributed drugs worth approximately 60 billion KRW, such as methamphetamine and ketamine, by concealing them in major body parts on flights.

In July 2023, the National Police Agency received an Interpol red notice and designated Mr. A as a high-priority international fugitive. They closely coordinated with the National Intelligence Service to collect and analyze overseas intelligence.

In November of last year, a joint Korea-Thailand tracking team confirmed that Mr. A was hiding in Khon Kaen, Thailand, about 500 km from Bangkok. On the 19th of the same month, led by the Korean police liaison officer dispatched to Thailand, Mr. A was arrested after real-time location tracking and prolonged surveillance.

The National Police Agency obtained intelligence from the National Intelligence Service about attempts to release Mr. A and immediately took measures to block his release. They also swiftly secured a deportation order through urgent negotiations with the Bangkok Immigration Detention Center (IDC) and Immigration Office.

A National Police Agency official stated, "This case is a successful example of cooperation between Korea and Thailand, united by the common goal of eradicating drugs, in which we relentlessly tracked and apprehended a major drug criminal." He added, "We will continue to pursue the arrest and repatriation of suspects who commit crimes and flee, as well as efforts to block drug smuggling."
