Experience Buddhist Cultural Heritage and Meditation
Historical and Healing Programs at Beomeosa
The Beomeosa Seongbo Museum (Director and Beomeosa Head Monk Jeong O) will host the traditional mountain temple national heritage utilization project, “Daewoong, In Search of the Great Hero! (ft. A Journey to Find Myself),” organized by the National Heritage Administration, Busan Metropolitan Government, and Geumjeong District Office.
This event offers citizens an opportunity to learn about and experience the value of cultural heritage.
Centered around the Beomeosa Daeungjeon Hall, this project aims to preserve and pass down traditional mountain temples and shed new light on the historical value and significance of national heritage sites. It features a variety of experiential and educational programs utilizing Buddhist cultural assets such as Jogye Gate, Beomeosa Gwaebuldo and Gwaebulham, and the embroidered Subokmun folding screen.
The program will run from April to July, including National Heritage Week, and is open to everyone from children to adults. It consists of “Beomeosa Heroes,” where participants can learn about history and patriotism and engage in creative experiences, and “Mushiro Meditation,” a healing program that combines meditation and traditional crafts.
“Beomeosa Heroes” is an experiential program that explores the historical significance and patriotic spirit of Beomeosa, allowing participants to build traditional architectural models. Participants will join cultural commentary sessions to understand Beomeosa’s historical value and take part in activities that introduce them to Joseon Dynasty architectural styles.
“Mushiro Meditation” consists of a meditation experience in front of the nationally registered Beomeosa Gwaebuldo and a traditional embroidery activity. Participants will have time to reflect inwardly through meditation and try their hand at Subokmun embroidery, wishing for longevity and good fortune, alongside a master embroiderer, experiencing traditional crafts firsthand.
The head monk of Beomeosa (director of the Seongbo Museum) stated, “Beomeosa, a thousand-year-old temple, is not just a historical heritage but an important space that connects our traditional culture and spirit. Through this program, I hope citizens will directly experience Buddhist cultural heritage and find an opportunity to reflect on themselves.”
Through this project, the Beomeosa Seongbo Museum provides citizens with a valuable opportunity to experience and learn about cultural heritage, takes the lead in promoting the value of traditional culture, and contributes to the local community.
