Lee Yongwoo, National Assembly Member: "The New Administration Should Continue Job Policies"

From Citizen Questions to Policy
Spotlight on Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju's "Green Paper"

There has been a suggestion that the citizen participation-based employment policy currently being piloted in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, should be reflected in the policy direction of the next administration.

Lee Yongwoo, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea and curator for the environment and labor sector on the party's policy communication platform 'Questions for All Q,' stated on the 10th, "The Gwangsan-gu Green Paper is a highly meaningful policy experiment," and added, "I will make sure to support its expansion and development under the new administration."

On this day, ahead of the 'Policy Proposal Forum on Employment Policy Direction for the Next Administration' held at the National Assembly, Lee met with Park Byungkyu, the head of Gwangsan-gu, and received the 'Sustainable Jobs Green Paper' published by Gwangsan-gu in March, offering this evaluation.

The Gwangsan-gu Green Paper is the result of a social dialogue with citizen participation, containing 20 key questions derived from the inquiries of 1,436 citizens. Park stated, "I hope the questions from the Gwangsan-gu Green Paper will be reflected in Questions for All Q and contribute to the establishment of employment policies for the next administration."

Lee, a member of the National Assembly Environment and Labor Committee, commented, "The fact that Gwangsan-gu has attempted a citizen-centered policy experiment and organized it into a record is the first such case nationwide and is very refreshing," and added, "Park Byungkyu and Gwangsan-gu have proven the 'possibility' by carrying out this challenging initiative." He continued, "I hope this good example will take root well and spread to other local governments."

Park said, "I hope the National Assembly will join us in the ongoing process of citizen dialogue to create a white paper and a blue paper in the future."
