On the 10th at 10 a.m., GS Retail announced that it signed a three-party business agreement with Cheonan City and Cheonan Senior Club at Cheonan City Hall to promote the 'GS Retail X Cheonan City Senior Uchin' walking delivery business.
'Senior Uchin' is a walking delivery platform business planned and operated by GS Retail targeting the elderly. It is designed to help seniors earn income through short-distance deliveries while increasing their daily physical activity and improving their familiarity with digital technology.
According to the agreement, GS Retail will support delivery fee payments, provide delivery bags and smartphone applications (apps), and offer delivery training. Cheonan City will oversee the overall project and provide participants with mobile healthcare and health management services using smartwatches. Cheonan Senior Club will be responsible for recruiting and managing delivery workers, road safety and basic etiquette education, app usage training, and follow-up management.
Previously, GS Retail operated Senior Uchin in Seoul and Busan, demonstrating high activity levels and participation rates among the elderly. In fact, the average number of deliveries performed per person in their 70s was 104, more than 15 times higher than the 6.6 deliveries by people in their 20s. Those in their 60s also recorded 86.9 deliveries, higher than the younger age groups. Additionally, the activity rate of subscribers in their 60s and 70s was 1.9 times higher than that of the 20s and 30s age groups.
GS Retail plans to continuously expand the Senior Uchin business to practice ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management. In Seoul, measures to improve the adaptability of new participants will be reviewed. In Busan, cooperation with the Senior Job Support Center will be strengthened, and Cheonan City plans to recruit trainees monthly from this agreement onward, aiming for stable project establishment through regular training and field deployment.
Jeon Jin-hyeok, head of GS Retail's O4O division, said, "Senior Uchin is a platform that realizes multiple values beyond simply providing jobs, including health, independence, and social contribution. We will develop it into a sustainable model that coexists with the local community together with Cheonan City and expand ESG management practices."
