National Science Museum to Host Science Festival 'Science Day'

Various Events Including Science Experience Booths and the Junior Science Communicator Competition

The National Science Museum announced on the 10th that it will hold 'Science Day,' Korea's representative science festival, over two days from the 12th to the 13th at the National Science Museum grounds.

Science Day, which began in 1998, is Korea's leading science festival and is celebrating its 28th year (the 54th event) this year. The 54th Science Day event will feature a variety of programs including science experience booths, the Junior Science Communicator Competition finals, exhibition hall exploration mission events, a Science Survival Quiz Show, and unique science lectures.

The science experience booths will include about 60 booths operated by student science clubs, public institutions and companies, as well as an aviation mobility technology experience zone where visitors can try piloting an aviation simulator. These experiences will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue.

The Junior Science Communicator Competition is a contest held for the first time this year at the National Science Museum to provide students with an opportunity not only to acquire scientific knowledge but also to communicate and enjoy science in their own way. The finals will be held on the outdoor stage on the second day of Science Day, the 13th, with eight students who passed the first round through video submissions. The eight finalists will receive prizes worth a total of 3 million KRW and the National Science Museum Director's Award.

The exhibition hall exploration mission event involves completing missions while touring the Korean Science and Technology History Hall, which opened last year, as well as the Natural History Hall, Humanity Hall, and Future Technology Hall. After completing the missions, participants can use a nostalgic lottery board to receive various souvenirs. In particular, the Future Technology Hall offers a new content experience called 'Smart City Theft Case,' which is a revamped version of the previously operated game-type exhibition guide system.

Additionally, the Science Survival Quiz Show, which was very popular last year, will be held on the main outdoor stage. It will be conducted five times over the two days for elementary school students, with 100 participants each time solving science quizzes to select the final winner. Winners and participants will receive small prizes.

Kwon Seok-min, Director of the National Science Museum, said, "Science Day is a representative event that shares the history of the National Science Museum, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary," adding, "In addition to Science Day, the National Science Museum will prepare various events for the future science and technology talents."
