Lee Jun-seok Visits Daegu: "Lee Jae-myung Nears Presidency, Will Not Overlook"

"Presenting Alternatives to the People of Gyeongbuk Is My Role"

Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform New Party who has completed registration as a preliminary candidate for the 21st presidential election, visited Daegu on the 9th and stated, "I will use every possible means to ensure that this becomes a winning choice."

On the morning of the same day, after exchanging greetings with commuters at Seo Daegu IC and other locations, Lee said on site, "There is an assessment that Representative Lee Jae-myung is on the verge of seizing the presidency," adding, "I will not overlook this situation."

Regarding the criticism that unlike during the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye, there was a strong public opinion opposing the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-youl in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, Lee explained, "It is true that there was significant opposition to the impeachment, but during the impeachment process, a tremendous amount of false news spread, which misled the residents." He added, "How long must Daegu and Gyeongbuk always be the regions that just lose and end up only feeling disappointed? I have said that it is time to ultimately lead new politics in Daegu and Gyeongbuk."

Regarding Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo's remark that "In the end, (Lee Jun-seok) will come to our side," Lee said, "I have close political consultations with Mayor Hong about once or twice a week," and added, "I will establish a political culture for the younger generation with a bit more responsibility than Mayor Hong imagines." He also said, "Conservatives cannot always be lumped together and suffer disgrace like this," and "My role is to create a new conservative culture and present alternatives to the citizens of Daegu and the residents of Gyeongbuk."

Regarding his presidential election pledges for the Daegu region, he claimed, "For example, there have been many false promises circulating, such as that Daegu would develop tremendously and 500,000 jobs would be created if only Daegu International Airport were relocated," adding, "Later on, nearly 10 trillion won would have to be invested, but I want to question whether that alone is the best solution." He further added, "We also need to ask whether the younger generation really only wanted an airport. I will present comprehensive pledges addressing such aspects."

In response to criticism that multiple candidates from the People Power Party are competing, he said, "There is a misconception that if you win the heart of the impeached president, even if I am currently insignificant, I can rise sharply and seize the presidency," emphasizing, "In this election, the winner will be determined solely by public sentiment."

Regarding the observation that he receives relatively strong support from young men in their 20s (I-daenam) but less sympathy from young women, he said, "When I was elected in the general election a year ago in Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, Dongtan is nationally famous for the meme 'Dongtan Mom,' where women's voices are strong and politically trained," adding, "Despite that, I caused an upset by winning as a third party, which means I understand well what female voters want and can make tailored pledges accordingly."
