The ruling party has pushed back after the opposition party demanded the resignation of political appointees appointed by former Changwon Special City Mayor Hong Nampyo, who was dismissed for violating the Public Official Election Act.
On the 9th, the Changwon City Council members of the People Power Party held a press conference at the Changwon City Hall press center, stating, "Open-term public officials cannot be forced to resign from their positions based solely on political claims."
The previous day, the Changwon City Council members of the Democratic Party of Korea demanded the immediate resignation of political appointees appointed by Mayor Hong, including Deputy Mayor Cho Myeongrae, special advisors, and the auditor, claiming they share joint responsibility for the city's administrative failures.

The terms of office for the Deputy Mayor and the auditor, who are open-term public officials, are set to end in July, while the term for the political special advisor runs until January next year.
The People Power Party city council members emphasized, "Open-term public officials are appointed through procedures in accordance with relevant laws and regulations," and added, "As their terms are guaranteed by law, they must fulfill their duties for the remainder of their tenure."
They continued, "The city council will respect these principles and work closely with the acting authority to maintain continuity and stability in city administration," adding, "We will actively support changes and developments that citizens can feel, ensuring there are no administrative gaps."
