Crackdown on Illegal Activities Ahead of Early Presidential Election
All 23 Police Stations in Jeonnam Mobilized
24-Hour Intensive Management of Election Crimes
The police are launching a crackdown on illegal election activities with the presidential election just two months away. They have also established a policy of zero tolerance for any illegal acts detected.
According to the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency on the 9th, in preparation for the 21st presidential election scheduled for June 3, the agency will operate election crime investigation situation rooms and dedicated investigation teams at 23 police stations under its jurisdiction.
To prevent social unrest and conflict caused by the relatively tight election schedule and to support a fair election, the agency plans to respond to election crimes 24 hours a day, centered on the 'Election Crime Investigation Situation Room.'
In addition, a dedicated investigation team of 201 officers will be mobilized to strengthen intelligence gathering on various illegal election activities, and a close cooperation system will be established with local election commissions, prosecutors' offices, and other related agencies to crack down on election crimes.
In particular, the agency has designated five major election crimes?bribery, spreading false information, public officials' involvement in elections, election-related violence, and illegal mobilization of organizations?as serious offenses that undermine the fairness of the election, and will intensify crackdowns on these crimes.
Mo Sangmyo, Chief of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, stated, "We will maintain a thoroughly neutral stance and respond swiftly and strictly to all types of election crimes," and urged, "If you become aware of any illegal activities related to the election, please report them actively to 112 or the nearest police station."
