Oh Jaehwan and Lim Nari's "Linear" Wins Grand Prize
Daejeon's Diverse Colors Expressed Through Flexible Design
The city of Daejeon held an award ceremony for the "Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2 Station Design (Architecture) Competition" on the morning of the 9th at the reception room on the 10th floor of City Hall, attended by Mayor Lee Jangwoo, Jury Chairperson Lee Jinsook, and others.
In the first round of the competition, 71 entries were submitted, with 18 advancing to the first round of judging and the top 8 to the second round. Seven experts from various fields participated, comprehensively reviewing the creativity and practicality of the works to determine the final winners.
The grand prize went to "Linear" by Oh Jaehwan and Lim Nari. This work was praised for expressing the diverse colors of Daejeon, a city that emerged in the modern era, through a flexible design that allows for material changes, effectively reflecting the urban context of the planned city. Its simple beauty and scalability, applicable to both the new and old city centers, are expected to be significant strengths in the actual design.
The first prize was awarded to "Land Glider," jointly submitted by Urban Arc Architects and Eum Partners. Excellence prizes went to "D.C.S.S" by Lee Juho and "Garam Station" by Park Kyungho, Lee Wonyoung, and Han Yeeun.
Mayor Lee Jangwoo of Daejeon said, "Through this competition, I hope that Urban Railway Line 2 will be reborn as a beautiful and practical space where citizens can feel pride, beyond being just a means of transportation," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that the winning designs are faithfully reflected in the actual station architecture."
