The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission announced that it received a report from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) stating that one of the two emergency diesel generators at Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5 (located in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do) automatically started at around 8:54 a.m. on the 9th.
Hanbit Unit 5 had been shut down since the 7th for planned preventive maintenance. The NSSC confirmed that there were no unusual incidents such as radiation leakage to the outside.
Currently, the NSSC is inspecting safety on-site at the Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant regional office, and plans to dispatch an investigation team composed of experts from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety (KINS) to the site to conduct an in-depth investigation into the cause.
