Early Presidential Election Causes Postponement of Local Events Including Cheonan K-Culture Expo

Event Restrictions Imposed by the Public Official Election Act
Some Special Festivals Allowed Under Exception Clause

Early Presidential Election Causes Postponement of Local Events Including Cheonan K-Culture Expo The opening ceremony of the Cheonan K-Culture Expo last year.

With the dismissal of former President Yoon Sukyeol, an early presidential election is scheduled for June 3. As a result, local government events are being postponed one after another due to restrictions imposed by the Public Official Election Act.

According to Article 86 of the Public Official Election Act, from 60 days before the election, heads of local governments are prohibited from holding various events that could influence the election.

The 'Cheonan K-Culture Expo,' originally scheduled to be held from May 21 to 25, has been postponed to June 4 to 8, the days following the presidential election.

An expo official stated, "We are currently busy readjusting the lineup and event details," and added, "Since the event period includes Memorial Day (June 6), we also plan to revise the specific program accordingly."

The 'Cheonan Bread Pilgrimage Bread Bread Day,' which used to be held every April, has also been rescheduled to June 14 to 15. The city had planned to revamp the event this year by changing its name from the previous Berry Berry Bread Bread Day and strengthening its content.

However, events that cannot achieve their purpose unless held on specific dates or periods are not prohibited under the exception clause.

The 'Cheonan Children's Happiness Week,' which Cheonan City will hold from May 1 to 6 to coincide with Children's Day, will proceed as originally planned.

Asan City will also hold the 'Yeonginsan Royal Azalea Festival' on the 19th, timed with the blooming of azaleas, as scheduled.

The 'Asan Seongwoong Yi Sunshin Festival,' held around the birthday of General Yi Sunshin, will also take place from the 25th to the 27th of this month.

An Asan City official said, "We obtained an authoritative interpretation from the election commission in advance to ensure the normal operation of our events," and added, "With the application of the exception clause, our city's events will proceed as planned."
