Kimiga Co., Ltd. is a company specializing in seasoned seaweed, actively exporting not only domestically but also to North America and Southeast Asia. This investment in Gwangyang is expected to create approximately 170 new jobs.
Last November, Jeonnam Province established the 'Food Industry Promotion Plan' and has been focusing on establishing a value chain that encompasses processing, distribution, and export, moving beyond the existing production-centered system.
In particular, 'gim' has emerged as a leading future strategic item, ranking first among single seaweed export items.
The Gwangyang Sepung Industrial Complex is highly regarded for its excellent port accessibility and logistics infrastructure, making it a promising hub for food processing and export.
This investment is expected to serve as a signal for transforming the Sepung Industrial Complex into an advanced base for the future food industry.
Koo Chung-gon, Commissioner of the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone Authority, stated, "We expect that this investment in the gim industry, which achieved 1 trillion KRW in exports for the first time among seafood products last year, will serve as an important milestone for the Sepung Industrial Complex to establish itself as a hub for food industry exports," adding, "We will actively support the successful investment of Kimiga Co., Ltd."
