"AI is an inevitable trend."
Yoonhong Heo, CEO of GS Engineering & Construction, is driving digital transformation (DX). At an executive workshop responsible for the company's future strategy, he once again called for transformation.
According to GS E&C on the 9th, earlier this month at the Elysian Learning Center in Yongin, a workshop was held with about 100 executives and next-generation leaders, including CEO Heo and heads of each business division and department, under the theme of "Enhancing Competitiveness through Active Utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI)."
The workshop began with an external lecture to increase understanding in preparation for the AI era, followed by discussions on business models applying AI to the company and practical application methods in the field.
This was the third workshop held since CEO Heo's inauguration. Despite numerous pressing issues, AI was chosen as the theme due to a sense of crisis that digital technology is no longer a choice but a necessity for survival.
Construction companies are accelerating the use of digital technologies to improve productivity and reduce costs, and on construction sites, the need to replace skilled laborers with AI robots and automation technologies is growing.
Additionally, due to profitability deterioration caused by rising raw material costs and labor expenses, cost reduction through AI analysis has become an essential factor.
An executive in charge of construction said, "Listening to AI utilization cases from other industries at this workshop led to a shift in thinking that AI is now an unavoidable trend," adding, "Furthermore, it was a valuable experience to consider the necessity of applying AI in the construction field and exploring future growth engines for the company."
Meanwhile, CEO Heo declared digital internalization in this year's New Year's address and is making focused investments in digitalizing the field using AI, such as developing 'ZaiBook,' which informs the latest construction standards with a single search.
