Bucheon City in Gyeonggi announced on the 9th that it will designate Bucheon Maru Square and the Simgokcheon area as a 'No Drinking Zone' and begin enforcement.
This measure follows a partial amendment to the 'Bucheon City Ordinance on Creating and Supporting a Healthy Drinking Culture Environment,' introducing a stricter designation of no drinking zones compared to the previous alcohol-free areas, along with newly established regulations for imposing fines.
Accordingly, drinking is completely prohibited within the designated areas, and violators will be fined 50,000 KRW. The city plans to minimize inconvenience to citizens by combining enforcement with on-site guidance activities to promote early establishment of the system.
The city expects that the designation of no drinking zones will transform popular urban rest areas into safer and more pleasant environments. Additionally, through systematic management and education regarding drinking in public places, the city aims to lead the creation of a healthy urban culture.
Kim Eun-ok, Director of Bucheon City Public Health Center, stated, "This measure is a practical step to reduce safety accidents and daily inconveniences caused by reckless drinking, and to protect citizens' health and public order. We will continue to strive for the establishment of a healthy drinking culture and improvement of public awareness."
