Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Organization (President Kim Namil) announced on the 9th that it has selected the Gayasan History and Myth Theme Center, Seongsandong Ancient Tombs, and Seongju Chamoe as the recommended places for April in the monthly "Traveling Gyeongbuk through Photos" series.
The Gayasan History and Myth Theme Center is located in Gayasan National Park and sheds new light on the history, mythology, and ecology of the Gaya cultural sphere, which is a significant part of Korea's ancient culture. The facility includes a two-story exhibition hall, walking trails, a forest rest area, and an observatory.
At the Gayasan History and Myth Theme Center within the national park, you can soothe your body weary from daily urban life with nature. After touring the theme center, a walk through Gayasan National Park will help relieve accumulated stress and fill you with the refreshing energy of nature. Especially if you visit with children, it will be a healing trip for the whole family's body and mind.
The next recommended site, Seongsandong Ancient Tombs, is ranked as the 9th of the 10 Scenic Spots of Seongju. Large and small tombs are lined up along the mountain ridge, and taking a walk beside the tombs while imagining how people lived in those times is a unique experience only available at Seongsandong Ancient Tombs.
Next to the tombs is the Seongsandong Ancient Tombs Exhibition Hall. Established in 2020, the exhibition hall features a permanent exhibition room displaying relics unearthed from the tombs, an outdoor exhibition space, and a children's experience room, making it a popular destination for family visitors.
Besides Gaya cultural heritage, Seongju is also famous for its chamoe (Korean melon). Seongju is the undisputed number one chamoe-producing region in Korea, accounting for 80% of the nation's production. Chamoe grown with the clean water of Gayasan and the fertile soil of the Nakdong River is especially renowned for its taste and fragrance.
To promote Seongju Chamoe, Seongju County operates the Seongju Chamoe Experience Theme Park, which offers a variety of exhibitions and hands-on activities to provide information about chamoe.
Kim Namil, President of the Organization, said, "In April, when spring flowers are in full bloom, I hope you visit Seongju with your family, enjoy delicious Seongju Chamoe, and create happy memories while learning about Gaya culture."
